Move Over Wine Tasting, It's Time for Oil Tasting: A Surprisingly Tasty Experience at Il Fiorello

If you are looking for a unique experience then let me suggest oil tasting! Yes, you read that correctly. This is something that I didn’t think I was going to enjoy at all but I was wrong. We went to Il Fiorello, which is located in Suisun Valley, CA. It is secluded and quiet with a picturesque setting surrounded by 3,000 olive trees and vineyards. It is family owned and the oil is produced from the owners Ann and Mark Sievers’s certified organic groves.

We had a tasting reservation for a party of 4. My husband, my sister-in-law and her husband joined us since they were visiting from out of town. Once we arrived we went to the tasting room which had views of the patio. The comparative tasting of Extra Virgin Olive Oils, Co-Milled Oils, and Balsamic Vinegar Reductions were paired perfectly with chef-crafted food. It was very informative and the whole tasting experience was surprisingly tasty and good. We were initially skeptical when we decided to go oil tasting but were pleasantly surprised by the end. Have you had olive oil gelato? It’s actually delizioso!

There’s more to Il Fiorello than the olive oil tasting. They have a private dining room which is cozy and intimate. There’s also a picturesque outdoor venue area with a pavilion and patio where you can enjoy a selection of wine by the glass. They also host culinary classes which hopefully I’ll get to try next. Everyone is so caught up with the wine tasting in this area (which is great) that a unique experience like the oil tasting gets overlooked. This has become one of our favorite places to visit when we want to relax on their patio lounging chairs, have some gelato when it’s hot or just look at the surroundings and unwind after a long week.
